The Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors has had seven full days of meetings in Rome. Meetings of the six Working Groups focused on updates for current projects, and developing and drafting proposals. Outside collaborators who assisted the Working Groups included the Catholic Fund for Overseas Development (CAFOD), and an expert in Penal Canon Law. Draft proposals were presented to the Plenary Assembly for further discussion and decision about policies to propose to the Holy Father. Policies endeavor to recognize the diversity of information and guidance currently available to the Church around the world.

The Commission likewise welcomes the recent announcement that in a week’s time the first course offering a diploma in the Safeguarding of Minors at the Pontifical Gregorian University will start with 19 participants from four continents: Africa, Europe, America and Asia.
The September 2016 meeting of the Commission will have a strategic focus on safeguarding minors in Catholic schools, and will invite contributions from experts in Latin America, England and Wales.
The Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors was created by Pope Francis in March of 2014. The Chirograph of His Holiness Pope Francis states specifically, “The Commission’s specific task is to propose to me the most opportune initiatives for protecting minors and vulnerable adults, in order that we may do everything possible to ensure thatcrimes such as those which have occurred are no longer repeated in the Church. The Commission is to promote local responsibility in the particular Churches, uniting their efforts to those of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, for the protection of all children and vulnerable adults.”

La Pontificia Commissione per la Tutela dei Minori ha tenuto a Roma sette giorni di incontri. Gli incontri dei sei Gruppi di Lavoro si sono concentrati sull’aggiornamento dei progetti correnti e sullo sviluppo e la stesura di proposte. I collaboratori esterni che hanno assistito i Gruppi di Lavoro comprendevano il “Catholic Fund for Overseas Development” (CAFOD) (Fondo Cattolico per lo Sviluppo d’Oltreoceano) e un esperto di Diritto Penale Canonico. Bozze di proposte sono state presentate all’Assemblea Plenaria per ulteriori discussioni e decisioni sulle politiche da sottoporre al Santo Padre. Le linee guida si adoperano per riconoscere la diversità di informazioni e orientamenti attualmente a disposizione della Chiesa nel mondo.

Anche la Commissione ha accolto con favore il recente annuncio che fra una settimana, alla Pontificia Università Gregoriana, avrà inizio il primo corso di studi per conseguire un diploma per la Tutela dei Minori, con 19 partecipanti provenienti da quattro continenti: Africa, Europa, America e Asia.
L’incontro della Commissione del settembre 2016 avrà l’obiettivo strategico di tutelare i minori nelle scuole cattoliche, richiedendo contributi di esperti di America Latina, Inghilterra e Galles.
La Pontificia Commissione per la Tutela dei Minori è stata creata da Papa Francesco nel 2014. Il Chirografo di Sua Santità Papa Francesco stabilisce specificatamente: “ Compito specifico della Commissione sarà quello di propormi le iniziative più opportune per la protezione dei minori e degli adulti vulnerabili, sì da realizzare tutto quanto è possibile per assicurare che crimini come quelli accaduti non abbiano più a ripetersi nella Chiesa. La Commissione promuoverà, unitamente alla Congregazione per la Dottrina della Fede, la responsabilità delle Chiese particolari per la protezione di tutti i minori e degli adulti vulnerabili”.
