Global Safeguarding Alliance launched

Today eight institutions and a safeguarding expert from Ghana launched the Global Safeguarding Alliance, a network created with the aim to advance safeguarding research, education, and practices for the prevention of abuse.

Its goals and members were made public today on its website. The alliance will endeavor

  • "to promote knowledge and worldwide exchange on safeguarding and the prevention of abuse of children, adolescents and other vulnerable persons,

  • to create a network of individual initiatives around the globe in an efficient and solution-oriented way in order to increase the effectiveness of each of them by mutual learning,

  • to serve as visible sign of the Catholic Church's commitment to a safer Church and world."

The current members of the Global Safeguarding Alliance are

  • Catholic Safeguarding Institute, Ateneo de Manila University Campus

  • Centre for Catholic Studies, Durham University

  • Centre for Child Protection, Pontificia Università Gregoriana

  • Centro de investigación y formación interdisciplinar para la protección del menor,

    Universidad Pontificia de México

  • Centrum Ochrony Dziecka / Child Protection Centre, Kraków, Poland

  • Institute of Child Protection Studies, Australian Catholic University

  • Safeguarding Commission of the Jesuit Conference of South-Asia – CCP Unit, De Nobili

    College, Pune, India

  • Universidad Alberto Hurtado, Santiago de Chile

  • Sr. Rejoice Enyonam Hoedoafia, expert in the field of safeguarding (Ghana)

The members are open to welcoming other institutions whose aims are consonant with those of the Global Safeguarding Alliance.
