Faith and Flourishing Symposium

On 8, 9, and 10 April, Harvard University and The Catholic University of America will host a three-day virtual symposium on child sexual abuse entitled "Faith and Flourishing: Strategies for Preventing and Healing Child Sexual Abuse".

Organizers describe the online symposium as "a marquee event for the April 8 World Day for Child Sexual Abuse Prevention, Healing and Justice. This event provides participants with a unique opportunity to engage with scholars, public health and mental health care professionals, child abuse prevention experts, and religious leaders of diverse faith traditions to share experiences, discover new resources and identify strategies they can implement to prevent child sexual abuse and foster healing for survivors of abuse in their communities."

Registration for the event is free. The program features nearly 50 speakers, including Fr. Hans Zollner, Cardinal Sean O'Malley, Msgr. Stephen Rosetti, Janine Geske, Maud de Boer-Buquicchio, Benyam Dawit Mezmur. The 2018 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Rev. Dr. Denis Mukwege, will give the keynote address. Speakers' recorded presentations will be available on demand for registered participants (for up to 90 days after the event), and participants can join daily live discussions on cultural barriers and strategies for prevention and healing. A virtual exhibit hall will provide those registered with tools, resources, and data.

A professional development certificate can be obtained for participation in the event: "Participants who view the program, complete an evaluation and participate in one or more live discussion sessions will receive a certificate of attendance (16 hours of professional development) from the Human Flourishing Program, at Harvard’s Institute for Quantitative Social Science."
