CCP Partners: Seminar in Seoul, S. Korea led by Alumnus Br. James Kannanthanam CMF

"Protection of Minors and Vulnerable Adults and the Response of the Church."

It is with great pleasure that this week I share an update sent by Fr. James Kannanthanam CMF, a former student of the CCP Diploma Course,  who has in these weeks served as project manager for a group that has implemented the E-learning program of the CCP at the 'ICLA, Institute for Consecrated Life in Asia in the Philippines.

In addition to having guided this course for the prevention of child abuse carried out in collaboration with the CCP with commendable commitment, Fr. James has carried out other formative and awareness activities on the same topic. In particular, he recently conducted two seminars in South Korea.

The seminar on Safeguarding Minors entitled, "Protection of Minors and Vulnerable Adults and the Response of the Church", was conducted under the auspices of the Conference of Major Superiors of Korean Men's Religious Institutes and Societies of Apostolic Life from April 30th to May 2nd, 2018 at Salesian Centre, Daebang-dong, Seoul. It was attended by 88 persons – including His Excellency Ok Hyun - Jin Simon, the Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of GwangJu (South Korea), also including diocesan and religious priests, brothers and sisters.

The seminar was meant to create awareness about the issues around the abuse of minors and to inspire positive responses for the cause of safeguarding children and creating safe environments. This was the first time a seminar of this nature was conducted in S. Korea and the participants were very eager to learn about the problems and sought many clarifications.

A seminar was also conducted for the Incheon Catholic University, S. Korea for the professors and seminarians on 28 April 2018.
