Australia’s eSafety Commissioner visits IADC
ROME, Italy – The Institute of Anthropology (IADC) had the honour of welcoming Julie Inman Grant, Australia’s eSafety Commissioner, to our office in Rome September 22.
Grant participated in an important meeting, coordinated by the Foundation Child for Study and Research into Childhood and Adolescence, on “Dignity in a Digital World: The Upcoming Global Challenge Defying Children and Adolescents.”
In her role, Grant leads the world’s first statutory regulator committed to keeping its citizens, especially children and vulnerable people, safer online. She has been outspoken in confronting the scourge of online child abuse and in urging tech and social media outlets to prevent illegal and harmful content from spreading.
Father Hans Zollner, IADC director, and Prof. Ernesto Caffo, president of Foundation Child, welcomed representatives of governments, global companies and institutions, as well as law enforcement agencies at the forefront of online safety initiatives.
“We have to work across borders and boundaries, sectors and societies, to tackle these issues together. In a world of rapidly evolving technologies that could accelerate the harms faced by children at scale, we need to stay one step ahead – for the sanctity and safety of our children now and into the future,” Grant said.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to meet with Julie Inman Grant and discuss the importance of eSafety with the most prominent and important government official who has advanced the cause of online safety and is well ahead of its development,” said Father Zollner.
“Civil, non-governmental and religious institutions cannot fight this battle alone,” said Prof. Caffo. “It is only by working together that we can create a safer world for children and vulnerable persons.”
