The Winter Commission extends its investigation into violence in youth care to deaf and blind people. For this reason, enough material is available, according to the preliminary investigation. Investigation on these institutes is also highly desirable, says commission chairman Micha de Winter.

The commission of the Winter started already last autumn. It looks at psychological and physical violence, but also at sexual abuse over a long period of time; from 1945 to now while focussing on institutions that were under supervision of the government.

Deaf and blind people were not under state supervision, but this does not make the issue any less urgent, says committee chairman Micha de Winter. "These are children who are more vulnerable due to their disability.”
